What to expect on your first visit?

You will be warmly greeted and asked to fill out a health questionnaire*. You will meet with Dr. Zellner to discuss your needs and health goals. With your goals and needs in mind a chiropractic examination follows. The purpose of your examination is to find the cause of your problem and evaluate the health of your spine and related structures. Your spine, other joints and muscles will be thoroughly evaluated during this fully clothed chiropractic examination. While standard range of motion, orthopedic and neurological tests may be performed, the highlight of the exam is palpation. Dr. Zellner is a highly skilled palpator, meaning he can feel what is normal or abnormal by touch. If needed, your spine will be x-rayed in our office. You will be educated about the nature of your problem, what it will take to correct it, what you need to do at home and any necessary lifestyle changes.

*You may download our health questionnaire to print, fill out and bring with you to your first visit.

"Your exam is a show and tell affair, or more accurately, a discover and tell affair. Your structural health is evaluated and correlated with your health history and current concerns."
--Jack Zellner

What are we treating?

Tension patterns related to past accidents, repetitive motion, postural faults, genetic tendencies, abnormal skeletal formations and even mental and emotional stress are revealed during the examination. These tension patterns correlate with misaligned bones, strained joints/muscles and other abnormalities. The word for a misaligned bone is "subluxation". Subluxations of the spinal bones (vertebrae) can lead to nerve pressure and altered nerve function. Since nerves control all body function, these subluxations can not only cause pain, but can lead to ill health, and affect body functions including but not limited to digestion, elimination, respiration, sleep patterns, immune function, kidney and bladder function, and even mental clarity.

What are the various chiropractic techniques?

Artists and musicians have techniques and the practice of chiropractic is an art, a healing art. That is why no two chiropractors practice exactly the same way. The dozens of Chiropractic techniques can be divided into two styles: forceful or non-forceful (also called "light force").

Forceful techniques involve the application of some pressure or a quick thrust to release a stuck joint. This can be very beneficial and like all chiropractic techniques, it is comfortable. Some forceful techniques include Diversified, Gonstead and CBP.

Non-force or light force techniques involve gentle pressure or instruments to deliver a thrust. These techniques ease muscle tension, reduce stress and allow the adjustment to go deeper and last longer. Some non-force techniques include Activator, Torque Release, Nimmo and NET.

Techniques such as Applied Kinesiology has elements of both styles.

Why are Zellner Chiropractic Center's Techniques so effective?

Dr. Zellner has spent decades studying dozens of techniques within the natural healing arts. While working with a naturopath early in his career, he studied herbal medicine, homeopathy and acupuncture. Techniques involving muscle manipulation were also studied.

Non-force techniques were Dr. Zellner's original interest. He was an intern for Sacro-Occipital Technique and studied with many chiropractic pioneers including Drs. DeJarnette, Goodhart, Van Rumpt, Walker, Lee, Pierce, Stillwagon and Epstein to name a few.

Finding the most effective, efficient way to get results has led to the development of Dr. Zellner's system of treatment, an integration of numerous techniques individualized for each patient. Dr. Zellner's comprehensive approach evaluates all the joints and muscles including the skull. Many other chiropractors do not work with the arms, legs or skull. Better results ensue when evaluating all these structures in addition to the spine. Muscles are also evaluated and treated with special muscle techniques to normalize their function. Internal organ structural assessments and adjustments help with bowel, kidney, female organs and stomach function. Skull adjustments help jaw, head and sinus conditions. Of course, spinal adjustments ease back pain, sciatica, headaches and numerous other conditions.

What is Dr. Zellner's optimal health model?

At Zellner Chiropractic we address the 5 factors of health. They include: DIET, EXERCISE, REST, ATTITUDE and ENERGY.

These are discussed during the course of your care with suggestions and solutions appropriate for your individual needs.

"The five factors of health are the key that unlock the door to great health, increased vitality and longer life."

What is "Wellness"?

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, however insurance plans are highly individualized. For this reason we call each company and verify your benefits. Not all plans cover chiropractic. Many have high deductibles that are greater than the cost of a chiropractic program. Co-pays can be close to or more than our cash fee. In these instances, it may cost less to not use insurance. Once we verify your benefits, we will give you options for getting the care you need. Remember: all recommendations are thoughtfully made with your best health interests in mind. We care about your health.

We have a dedicated staff person who works with insurance billing. She knows the ins and outs of insurance industry and will assist you in getting the most out of your insurance plan.

Are your services covered by HMO/PPO type plans?

Possibly. We will be either in-network or out-of-network. Many people assume that an in-network provider will be less costly. This may not be the case for three reasons.

First, all chiropractic providers are not equal. If you took your clothes to a less expensive cleaner and they came out dirty or ruined, did you save money? If you got the least expensive eyeglasses but they didn't last long and you never looked that great in them, did you save money? If you pay a $20 co-pay but it take three times longer to get results than a $40 co-pay, did you save money? We recommend you go to someone you trust who can give you satisfactory results quickly and efficiently.

Secondly, many HMO/PPO plans are restrictive. They reward a doctor to get a patient out of care quickly whether they are healthy or not. This is why we only work with plans that allow us to offer great care and superior service to our patients. No insurance company dictates to us how we can treat our patients.

And finally, even if we are out-of-network, when your deductible, co-pay, and policy provisions are taken into account, it may be cheaper to pay our regular fees and not use insurance.

I have medicare coverage. Do you accept medicare?

We accept Medicare patients. Please call to check for our next available opening.

I have Medicaid. Does it pay for chiropractic?

No, there are no Medicaid benefits for chiropractic.

I was in a car accident. Can I get care at your office?

Yes. In fact, it is very important to have your spine checked following a car accident. If you caused the accident, you can use health insurance or be on our cash plan.

If the accident was the other person's fault, his or her auto insurance company and/or your auto insurance med-pay provision will cover chiropractic care in our office 100%. You have the option of paying for your care as services are rendered and getting reimbursed or signing liens guaranteeing payment and we will wait for payment when your case is closed.

I was in a work related injury. Will workers compensation pay for care?

Yes. As long as your employer or the designated health care provider authorizes us to treat you, workers compensation will pay 100% of your bill for 12 visits.

I want my children checked. Do you treat children?

Most definitely, yes. We love children and most children love to be adjusted. Children feel very welcome in our children's play area and they appreciate the free toy following an adjustment. Dr. Zellner has five children, one grandchild and another on the way and has treated children since the beginning of his practice 30 years ago.

We have successfully treated children with scoliosis, poor posture, ear infections, respiratory conditions, colic, constipation, head banging, coordination problems, and chronic infections, just to name a few conditions. We take care of children who have had accidents and have spine, joint, and muscle problems. Understanding the relationship of spinal health to optimal health for the entire body, many parents bring their children in for spinal wellness check ups. Call us at 303-444-7524 with any questions or concerns about your child's health.

"Making sure their child's spine develops properly, with a body free of nerve interference, is a goal shared by me and the parents."
